Experience high luxury and artistic beauty at Rinpa - a one-of-a-kind accommodation in KyotoCulture
A machiya is a traditional wooden townhouse typical of Kyoto, seen in parts of downtown Kyoto. The House of Rinpa is a new exclusive two-story machiya house that has been beautifully furnished with Japanese art and design, with only one reservation available per day.
An indoor Japanese garden is one of the special interior furnishings of Rinpa
Although Rinpa is located in the bustling city center of Kyoto - Shijo Karasuma - the peaceful atmosphere of the machiya townhouse allows you to embrace the Kyoto way of life.
One step inside, a feeling of anticipation escalates as you find a staircase adorned with bamboo decor, a flowing stream, and a small Japanese garden. The view from the luxuriously furnished bathroom is a courtyard designed by one of Kyoto's most famous garden designer.
The ground floor recreates natural scenery important to Japanese aesthetic, and the second floor is based on an oriental-spiritual atmosphere. The architectural design is original and innovative, and the decor used throughout the building is a form of traditional Japanese art called rinpa.
Personal concierge service
While only one booking is available per day and privacy is secured, there is a concierge service that is available 24 hours. A highly trained English-speaking concierge staff will help you with anything from arranging transportation, renting a bicycle, reserving a restaurant, to helping you find a Japanese cultural experience to make your trip special.
Japanese sweets and drinks
A wide range of beverages including beer, fruit juice, wine, as well as snacks, have been personally taste-tested and selected by the concierge, for each Rinpa guest. The selection of snacks includes offerings from the local candy company Crochet; a premiere rice cracker from Akasaka Kakiyama; and a matcha cake from a local manufacturer that has been making red bean paste for over 60 years.
The ultimate bathing experience
The bathtub is made from the Towada stone - which turns blue when wet and is soft on your skin – is rimmed with wood from the Japanese cypress, which has a relaxing aroma. Bath amenities are provided by Yojiya, a local Kyoto shop popular for their souvenirs, and Leaf & Botanics body care products are also available.
