du cafe Shinjuku: Music Café and Bar Now OpenMusic
du cafe Shinjuku, a café/bar for music-lovers to gather a spend time together listening to tracks over a coffee or a drink, is now open.
du cafe is designed to be a place of “good music, where you can connect to Today’s Music in a place with excellent sound.”
The café is fitted with an audio system specially selected by Audio Union staff and specialists. You can enjoy our daily playlists, chosen by Disc Union staff, through a system running an integrated amp from Accuphase, the leading Japanese audio brand, through speakers from Harbeth, a British speaker boutique founded by former BBC engineer Dudley Harwood.
As part of our commitment to presenting “Today’s Music,” every day we play new selections of music curated by Union staff, covering all genres and including everything from the latest new music to memorial compilations on the anniversaries of the passing of artists. We also host guest DJ sets and live shows, talk shows focused on music and culture, and other fascinating live events.
Food and Drink
We have a food menu with about 20 types of snacks and light meals, and drink menu extending over 90 items. We particularly recommend the Cajun fried chicken, which features a special blended spice we made as a collaboration with boutique spice vendor Koushindo. The original spice blend brings out the umami of the tender chicken, with accents of spiciness.
Under the supervision of “27 Coffee Roasters,” specialty coffee roasters based in Tsujido, and after round after round of tasting and debating, we came up with an original coffee blend “matched to music.” The blend has a mellow, fruity flavor, with strong notes of white peach and cherry coming through the rich Ethiopian beans. Coffee is also available for take-out.
We have a wide variety of drinks available for you to enjoy, featuring everything from beer, wine, sake, and shochu, to our own original cocktails. Our craft beers and wines feature custom labels made in collaboration with a skilled illustrator.
Shonan beer (Kumazawa Brewing Company) is an IPA featuring a rich blend of American hops, interweaved with a delicate, citrusy aroma. It goes well with our original spice Cajun chicken, tacos and hot dogs.
Our wines were chosen from a large number of candidates. We eventually settled on a pair French Burgundian wines – a pinot noir and a chardonnay – which we sell under our own original label. (Our wine is sold as part of the “ONE BOTTLE ONE TREE” program, under which a tree is planted for each bottle of wine sold).
Developing Original Beers and Coffees in collaboration with Musicians
In an attempt to create a new way of matching music to food and drink, du cafe has begun working with artists from start to finish to produce “musician’s original blend coffee” and “collaborative brews.” They will be perfect for, among other things, promotion for new releases.
