Night Viewing of Cherry Blossoms at the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival in Aomori PrefectureCulture
Hirosaki Park is famous nationwide for the spectacular night scenery created by the lit up 2,600 cherry trees along the glassy moats surrounding the Hirosaki Castle. The Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival will be held between April 20 to May 6 in 2019.
Hirosaki Castle is a major landmark of the city of Hirosaki, located in Aomori Prefecture in the Tohoku region of Japan. There are festivals to celebrate the arrival of the four seasons, such as the Cherry Blossom Festival in Spring, the Neputa Festival in Summer, the Chrysanthemum and Maple Leaf Festival in Autumn, and the Snow Lantern Festival in Winter. Many people come to Hirosaki to watch and to participate in these festivals.
In late April, over 2,600 cherry trees bloom across the Hirosaki Park, located at the foot of the castle. The Cherry Blossom Festival is widely known for its beauty at night - the mirrored reflection of the lit-up cherry trees on the moats magnify the scale, and as the festival nears the end, the moats literally turn pink as they are covered with the fallen flower petals.
