Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo Grand Reopening

Culture

Two new exhibitions: “Weavers of Worlds - A Century of Flux in Japanese Modern / Contemporary Art - “ & “Pleased to meet you. New Acquisitions in recent years”

  • The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo reopened in March after being closed for a three year period and a renovation. In celebration, two new exhibitions will be displayed (in the special exhibition room and the collection exhibition room) to showcase the museum’s collection on a large scale. Various events will be held during the exhibition period, so check the official website before visiting.

Special Exhibition Room: Weavers of Worlds - A Century of Flux in Japanese Modern / Contemporary Art -

This exhibition will feature Japanese art of the past 100 years, from the 1910s to the 2010s, mainly through works in the museum's collection. It aims to show how the artists have, through a critical perspective, selected strands of already established styles - as well as radically new techniques - and used them to weave their own distinctive worlds.

Collection Exhibition Room: Pleased to meet you. New Acquisitions in recent years

Having newly acquired some 400 works during its three-year closure, the museum will mark its grand reopening with a focus on these new acquisitions in its “MOT Collection” exhibitions.
