  • Enjoy the amazing sight of fireflies in Tokyo Skytree Town®

“Firefly Night” is an annual event that is returning for the 7th time this year.
Around 50 Heike fireflies reared at “Hotarium,” a permanent exhibit at Tobu Zoo, will be on special display at Sumida Aquarium.
During the event period, the aquarium's “Aqua Academy” will be converted to “Firefly Academy” every night from 6pm to allow visitors to view the fireflies.

Visitors can enjoy the gentle glow of the fireflies in the dimly lit space of the aquarium.
Fireflies are said to be creatures that herald the arrival of early summer in Japan, but unfortunately, they are now rarely encountered in central Tokyo.
Please do not miss this rare opportunity to experience the magical atmosphere of “Firefly Night” created by beautiful fireflies right before your eyes together with your family and friends.

    ■Regarding Heike fireflies
Among the 2000-odd species of fireflies that exist in the world, around 40 species are found in Japan. The most famous species of Japanese fireflies include Heike fireflies which are often found in paddy fields, Genji fireflies that mainly inhabit rivers, and Hime fireflies often found in the mountains.
Fireflies generally live on land, with the exception of Heike and Genji fireflies, whose larvae spend their days in the water.
