Activity

The Sapporo Snow Festival displays snow and ice sculptures in Sapporo, Hokkaido. The festival is held in Sapporo's Odori Park and other venues. See a wide variety of snow and ice sculptures large and small and enjoy Hokkaido food and stage entertainment. It is Sapporo's biggest winter event.

  • Odori Park Venue

    Sapporo Snow Festival's main venue. This 1.5-kilometer park has many snow and ice sculptures.
    The giant snow sculptures are incredible.
    The large ski jump will see top Japanese snowboarders and freestyle skiers do their tricks. There is also a large snow sculpture depicting an Ainu god called "Aynurakkur."
    The outdoor skating rink, popular last year, will also be back! Enjoy skating with your family, friends, sweetheart, or anyone else.

    Dates: February 4th–11th, 2020
    Time: Evening illumination until 10:00 p.m.
    Place: Odori Park, Nishi 1-chome to Nishi 12-chome

  • Susukino venue

    Dates: February 4th–11th, 2020
    Time: Illumination until 11:00 p.m. *Until 10:00 p.m. on the last day.
    Place: Along Nishi 4-chome road (Sapporo Ekimae-dori road) from Minami 4-jo-dori to Minami 7-jo-dori.

    *The road will be closed to vehicular traffic and open to pedestrians during the hours below. You can then see the ice sculptures up close. During other hours, see the sculptures from the sidewalk.
    ●February 4th–7th, 10th: 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
    ●February 8th–9th: 10:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
    ●February 11th: 10:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.

  • The venue from Minami 4-jo to Minami 7-jo will have 60 ice sculptures.
    At the Fureai Hiroba area, you can touch and sit on ice sculptures. The Illumination Street is great for photos. At the Ice Bar, enjoy a hot drink. In the evenings, the ice sculptures are illuminated. Many unique things at the Susukino venue.

  • Tsudome venue

    Dates: January 31st–February 11th, 2020
    Time: 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (A few attractions end at 4:00 p.m.)
    *If there is a large crowd, entry may close early.
    *To enjoy the physical activities, wearing ski wear or snowboard wear is recommended. Wear loose-fitting clothing that can keep you warm.

    The Tsudome venue is where kids and adults can play in the snow with snow slides, snow rafts, etc. Also, the Tsudome indoor space has a large rest area with food booths and many attractions for kids.

    For photos, fit inside the cutouts in the snow wall.

  • ■Snow raft
    A snowmobile pulls a rafting boat on the snow. Very thrilling ride.

  • ■Ice slides
    Made for children, the ice slides are 5 meters high and 17 meters long. (There is also a family slide for the parent and child to slide down together.)

    Note: February in Sapporo is freezing cold. Dress warmly with thermal underwear, a thick coat or down jacket, winter cap, scarf, and gloves.
